Rules for SF Society Horse Show

Appropriate attire:
Boots, long pants, button down shirt (short sleeve, sleeveless, or long sleeve)
Western hat in western classes.  English classes-hats and helmets are optional.

Gaited Halter:  judge on way of moving and conformation, horses may be shown in a bridle or
halter.  No whips if showing western attire and tack.  Paso Fino may be shown with 2
handlers, that is the way they are shown in halter classes.

Lead Line:  everyone gets first

Open Gaited:  Horses will be asked to walk or flat walk and favorite gait (rack, fox trot,
running walk, paso gait, ect.), judged on consistency of gait and quality of gait.  Horses may
be lite or heavy shod.  All horses must be freely moving, no unsoundness.

TWH classes:  all classes are lite shod except the Plantation class.  NO pads in any class,
NO bands allowed.  Horses will be asked to do a flat walk and a running walk, gaits must be
destiguishable.  Prominent head shake, with a good overstride behind.  Excessive speed to
be punished.  Form judged above speed.

Open 3 Gait:  same as Open Gaited only gaits are:  walk or flat walk, favorite gait, canter

Racking:  no head shake or very little, overstride varies but doesn't have to be long,
consistency, speed ok, but form should be good.

Fox Trot:  Flat walk and fox trot, head shake, consistency and form

ALL gaited classes:  bits with shanks longer than 8" are prohibited, curbs must be flat against
chin, no twisted curbs, curbs must be loose enough for judge to get two fingers under (judge
may check them if they choose to), gag bits with no shanks are not allowed.

ALL gaited classes: For sake of saving time:  gaited horses will NOT be asked to back up.

ALL gaited classes:   Judge should walk the line up in front of the horses:  look for any
horses with blood, scurfing skin or raw areas or any other signs of abuse to the ankle and
leg areas.  Horses should not be tied and may be dismissed from the arena by the judge.  
Also check bits and curbs.  We do not allow nor tollerate horses that have been sored,
chained, or mechanically enhanced.

ALL gaited classes:  tack and attire    English:  saddle may be cutback, ausi, dressage, or
any other English type saddle without a horn.  English bridle.  Whip optional.  Attire:  English
coat (Saddle seat or other), pants, and boots, hat optional or helmet.       Western:  western
saddle and bridle, snaffles only on 4 yr olds and under.  Bit shanks no longer than 8".  
Horses may be ridden with one or two hands in western.  western attire is long pants, long
sleeve, boots, western hat, helmets allowed & ties optional.    


Arabian classes:  English Pleasure:  enter the ring at a trot (normal), walk, trot, ext. trot, walk,
canter, hand-gallup, trot, walk   Western Pleasure:  enter at a jog-trot, walk, jog-trot, lope,
walk.  

Hunt Seat:  may show with braided mane & tail, but not required.  Enter at trot.  Gaits:  walk,
trot, canter, hand-gallup might be called for.

Walk-Trot:  horses MAY cross enter between walk-trot and canter classes
Open English Pleasure:  tack may be Hunt Seat or Saddle Seat.  Open to all breeds
including gaited horses.  Horses are to be shown at a walk, trot or favorite gait, and canter.

Other Rules & USEF Rules:

Horses with loss of sight may participate in performance classes only.

Horses must be shown serviceably sound.

No set or gingered tails.

Use of action devices on any breed of horse on the show grounds is prohibited.

Tongue ties are prohibited on all breeds of horses in all classes.

No electronic communication devices in any class.

Barefoot entries are allowed, but must be sound.

Youth are 17 years & under as of Jan. 1, 2007

Youth are allowed in Men's, Ladies, and Open classes.

No stallions may be shown or ridden on the grounds by anyone under the age of 18 years
old.

No cross entry between class 14 7 24             Entries close 3 classes ahead    
Appropriate attire is a must in all classes        TWHBEA rules apply (TWH classes)                   
Youth is (17 & under)                                      Lite Shod (shoe 3/8" x 3/4" or less)
Youth allowed in Men’s & Ladies gaited          NO Bands allowed, NO double caulks
Judge's decisions are final                              NO Pads on any gaited horses

Each breed of horse will be judged according to its standards and rules.
Show committee reserves the right to refuse any entry they deem to be unsound or unruly!

Rain Date:  in case of bad weather, show will be rescheduled at a later date.  If show is
interrupted and cannot go on, remaining part of show will be rescheduled.  Refunds will only
be given to those who do not attend the rescheduled show, within 1 month after the
rescheduled show.

No refunds will be given unless a horse or rider becomes ill or injured.
